Why Am I Getting Less Views On Tiktok
Why is my TikTok not getting views?
There could be many reasons you're getting 0 views on TikTok. It could be that your former videos didn't get a lot of views. Or that you did something that the platform doesn't want you to do.
Completion rate on TikTok
The first and most important factor that TikTok uses to distinguish good videos from bad ones is completion rate and watch time.
- How many people view the video from beginning to end
- Watch time
If you have low completion rate on your video in the test stage, the video will stop showing to more users.
How can you get people to watch the entire video?
- Built into many trends is that you are drawn in to view the whole video. E.g. Someone will show / do something at the end of the video.
- Tell a story.
- Looped videos (beginning and end look the same).
You can have a completion rate greater than 100%. If all viewers watch your video from beginning to end twice, you will receive 200%. Therefore, looping videos can be a great way to increase your completion rate %.
Tips:
- Just post good and well thought out videos.
- Short videos (Preferably under 15s). You want people to watch a 2nd time.
- Study viral videos and accounts
Engagement on TikTok video
After viewing time, TikTok measures the likes, comments and followers the video receives (so-called engagement). If the video performs well here it will be shown to more users.
How can you get people to share, comment and like?
- Many build this into the video in a humorous way.
- Spelling errors or other errors make people comment (if you can handle the criticism).
If you have a minute, have a look at Adobe Rush for better and easier video editing.
New account
TikTok wants to separate fake accounts from real people. So they don't trust new accounts at first. Be sure to use the app as a regular user before posting your first video.
- Watch some videos.
- Like.
- Add some info to your bio.
Avoid:
- Creating an account and posting a video straight away.
If you get more than 10 – 50 views on a video, you're passed the first stage when the account's possible views are limited.
Pros of a new account
TikTok wants everyone to start creating video on the platform so they have reason not to make it too difficult for a new account.
Niche on TikTok
Let's say you have high viewing time and engagement for videos in a particular niche – for example, cat videos. And then start posting videos when you do dances. You won't get any extra benefits in views and engagement for that video. Each video is judged separately and measured against other videos in the same genre. Therefore, it does not matter if you have an account with many views when you change your niche.
When starting an account (in the US) you get to select interest from these categories
- Animals
- Comedy
- Travel
- Food
- Sports
- Beauty & Style
- Art
- Gaming
- Science & Education
- Dance
- DIY
So try to target these niches with your content. You want to make it easy for the platform to find the people that would like and watch your whole video.
Tips
- One account one niche
With a PRO account at TikTok you can see and study this yourself. A good alternative for entrepreneurs and others who can afford it.
Your first 5 videos
There is information that TikTok determines how many impressions they will continue to give your account based on your first 5 videos. If you do not perform well according to the algorithm, TikTok will limit your impressions.
- Try creating a new account
If you've gone from having relatively many impressions to not getting any impressions at all, you may have done something that the platform doesn't want.
- Delete TikTok and create a new account.
If that doesn't help, and since your phone (IMEI number) may be stored with your account:
- Create an account with another phone.
Inappropriate content
Most of it goes without saying. Nudity, violence and so forth will get you banned or shadowbanned pretty fast. But you should also keep in mind that TikTok is owned by a chinese company. So they're gonna be a bit stricter on the kind of content they allow/want on their app. Relatively harmless stuff might also limit your views. Try to avoid:
- Political content
- Profanity
Think about the content you see going viral and on the for you page. That's the kind of content you can be sure that TikTok approves.
One phone – one account
A normal user is just gonna use one account on their phone. To be safe:
- One phone one account
More accounts can work but keep in mind that if you have a problem or are pennalized on one account it can affect the other accounts connected to the same phone.
Be careful with VPN
Getting your videos shown in a country other than your own is not easy on TikTok. We tested VPN on an account we had used without VPN and went straight from 20,000 to 0 views. To be shown in another country on TikTok, you need:
- A new account
- Remove your SIM card
- VPN
Using a VPN can be super powerful if you are a business and want to spot upcoming trends. The US is usually first with a trend and then everyone else follows eventually. You could be the first and definitive video of that trend in your country.

- With a new account it's easier to get impressions
- Completion rate is most important. Think about ways to increase it.
- Engagement is second most important. Think about ways to increase it.
- One niche per account.
- No inappropriate content.
- One account per phone
- Be careful with VPN
- Try another phone
If you're still not getting views it's probably the content you're posting. See what others are doing and try doing something more similar at first. Look at trending, look at hashtags. You'll get there!
